This post previously edited for the change in tip times moving early games to 6:30 p.m. from 7 p.m. and late games to 7:45 p.m. from 8:15 p.m.

After missing last season because of COVID-19 protocols, the Philadelphia/Suburban Women’s Summer Basketball League returns Thursday with some changes and will continue into a week of playoffs the front part of August.
We’ll chronicle the entire run as we have in the past and Commissioner David (Deuce) Kessler returns for the action at Kelly Bolish Gym, home of the AAU Renegades, 2950 Turnpike Drive in Hatboro, Pa., near the intersection of Davisville and Byberry Roads, close to the 611 Exit (Willow Grove) of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

We will go over more detail prior to the tip so we can give you the schedule and rosters here quicker.
The full report once the league has launched will have game detail with Bob Heller somehow being able to add some extra meat considering points are the only recorded stats, a preview of the next round, standings, a running list of players who score 20 or more points, a running results/coming schedule, team by team results/schedule, a playoff seed tracker, though it won’t take true shape until enough games are played, and we’ll repeat the rosters from time to time.
What’s Different
Because the league does not have NCAA certification there won’t be any undergraduates from D-1 schools, not that many signed in recent pre-coronavirus seasons, though D2 and D3 teams while playing under names of colors for the most part are allowed to play as whole squads as they are in the winter though some teams will have outsiders. The teams will be identified here in both color and school names.
For these squads, this will be good preparation to return to normal since many did not play last winter.
In the past anywhere from 10 to 13 teams competed on Tuesday and Thursday nights with three doubleheaders and in some seasons a team or two had byes.
This summer just eight teams will play on Thursday nights only for seven weeks of regular season, two doubleheaders, but all eight will make the playoffs in one-and-done rounds on Tuesday, Aug. 3 for the quarterfinals, Thursday, Aug. 5 for the semifinals, and Thursday, August 12 for the championship.
Five teams have 12 players, one has 13, one has 10, and one has 15 for a total of 98 players. The twin-bills tip at 6:30 p.m. with a 15-minute grace period to field a playing roster before a forfeit is called, however there is no grace for the 7:45 p.m. nightcaps.
The eight teams are: Red (D3 Arcadia 12 players), Orange (D2 Chestnut Hill 15 players), Sky Blue (D2 Holy Family 12 players), Black (D2-Jefferson 10 players), Kelly (D2-Kutztown 13 players),
