Mel Greenberg covered college and professional women’s basketball for the Philadelphia Inquirer, where he worked for 40 plus years. Greenberg pioneered national coverage of the game, including the original Top 25 women's college poll. His knowledge has earned him nicknames such as "The Guru" and "The Godfather," as well as induction into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.

Here are the best current streaks of significant numbers by teams in the AP Women’s Poll thru the vote of 14/04/16, which is also Poll No. 700 in Year 40.


1. Tennessee 543 weeks. Began Feb. 17, 1985 after 10-wk drought and runs across 30 seasons.

2. Connecticut 421 weeks. Began Preseason 93/94 and runs across 222 seasons

3. Duke 350 weeks. Began Preseason 97/98 and runs across 18 seasons.

4. Stanford 267 weeks. Began 01/02 and runs across 14 seasons.

5. Baylor 231 weeks. Began week 9 Jan. 5, 2004 and runs across 12 seasons.

6. Notre Dame 164 weeks. Began Preseason 07/08 and runs across 8 seasons.

7. Texas A&M 124 weeks. Began 11/16/09 2nd week and runs across 6 seasons.

8. Maryland 106 weeks. Began preseason 10/11 and runs across 5 seasons.
