Guru Report: Philly Summer League Opens Next Week

(Guru's Report: Depending how you got here, in terms of the morning daily there are two other posts above this -- one on the WNBA game and one other on collegiate stuff leading with Temple's Tonya Cardoza's new 5-year deal.)

By Mel Greenberg

A week from Thursday the Philadelphia/Summer League opens play for the season at the Kelly Bolish Gym, home of the AAU renegades in Hatboro, Pa.

As has been mentioned, many familiar faces off schools from Division I, II and III will compete.

It is not all about winning, though in past seasons the summer performances have been a positive omen for winter success as was the case for Drexel players two summers ago.

Commissioner David Kessler, also known as the league director, has sent along a preamble, the final rosters that have had some small tweaking since the group the Guru posted following the recent draft, and the schedule.

So here below is your handy tool kit for the season, which will be played on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The three-pack has Kessler’s preamble, the finalized teams and rosters and the schedule.

The Guru noticed the plug in one of Kessler’s items about the Guru covering the league and there will also be a newbie to help the cause who will also be on the trail.

That announcement of the new blogerette is coming soon, but it’s been so long since the last generation the Guru can’t remember whether to spell it the way he just said or bloggerette.

To continue, Kessler usually sends around weekly notes, standings and statistics

The locale is the same as a year ago so you can go back in the archives for directions to the gym, which replaced Northeast High, but the Guru will re-post them after the weekend:
