(Guru's note: If I did this right since I wanted separate posts, the WNBA Tuesday roundup is above this, otherwise, it is below. Just so you know beyond the headline.)

HATBORO, PA. --
In the one-and-done semifinal doubleheader Tuesday night two exciting games went to the wire, and in the first game it went beyond, before the participants at the Kelly Bolish Gym in suburban Philadelphia were decided for the best-of-three championship series that opens Thursday night in the Dept. of Recreation Women's Summer League sanctioned by the NCAA.

In game one, the top-seed Lime team fell 19 points behind before rallying, taking a small lead, but finally grabbing the outcome 66-64 over seventh-seeded Black, which upset the second seed Royal team (Some Temple affiliations) in the quarterfinals.

Former St. Bonaventure and Pennsbury High star Dana Mitchell led Lime with 26 points, while Laura Johnson and St. Joseph's Katie Kuester each scored 16 points with Mitchell and Kuester making several key plays down the stretch.

Kuester is the daughter of NBA Detroit Pistons coach John Kuester, a former 76ers assistant. Former Drexel scoring sensation Michelle Maslowski, looking like she hasn't missed a step, had 30 points for Black while Lehigh's Aly Borick scored 13, including a trey in the closing seconds of regulation that sent the game into overtime.

Lime finished 7-2 in the standings, breaking out of a two-way tie with Royal, while Black was 4-6, breaking out of a three-way tie for the seventh seed.

In the nightcap, the fifth-seeded Columbia team, which consists of all Division II Holy Family players (allowed under NCAA rules), upset the third-seeded Red team 64-61 as Catherine Carr scored 17 points and Meghan Gibson scored 16.

It is the first time the Division II Holy Family group has made the championship round though the winter Tigers have made the playoffs many times.

Red's Erin Shields, who is St. Joseph's bound and whose mother Renie Dunn Shields is a former Hawks star, scored 17 points while La Salle's Alexis Scott scored 11.

Red tied for third, getting the better seed with a 7-3 record, while Columbia got the nod in a two-way at fifth with a 5-5 mark.

Game 2 will be next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and if necessary a third and deciding game will be Thursday night, August 12th at 7 p.m.
