Mel Greenberg covered college and professional women’s basketball for the Philadelphia Inquirer, where he worked for 40 plus years. Greenberg pioneered national coverage of the game, including the original Top 25 women's college poll. His knowledge has earned him nicknames such as "The Guru" and "The Godfather," as well as induction into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.

The Guru’s Local/National NCAAW Roundup: Vanderbilt Beats South Florida; Drexel Hosts Chestnut Hill

Entering week two of finals, the Monday local schedule was dark while Tuesday just offers Drexel hosting area D2-Chestnut Hill at 3:30 p.m. (FloCollege) following the men’s game at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

On Monday nationally, No. 13 Vanderbilt (10-0) at home in Nashville defeated American Conference favorite South Florida 87-58 dropping the Bulls to 6-5.

Mikayla Blakes, the 2025 USBWA freshman of the year out of Somerville, N.J., scored 19 for the Commodores, who also had four other players in double figures. She shot 7-19 from the field that included four makes from deep, besides six rebounds and three steals.

It’s the first time since 2011-12 and sixth overall Vandy has started 10-0.

Sacha Washington scored 16 points with six boards, Justine Pissott scored 13 with six boards and four assists, Aubrey Galvan scored 11 with eight helpers and five boards, and Ndjakalenga Mwementanda scored 10.

South Florida got 23 points from Stefanie Ingram who shot 10-13 from the field.

On Thursday Vanderbilt hosts Albany while South Florida hosts No. 3 South Carolina.

 Oklahoma State, which dropped out of the AP Poll Monday replaced by Princeton at No. 25, hosted Tulsa (6-4) and won 90-58 as Micah Gray scored 20 points for the Cowgirls (11-2), while Amari Whiting scored 18 and reserve Lena Girardi scored 14 with each making three from deep. Additionally, reserve Jadyn Wooten added 13 points with seven rebounds.

Tulsa’s bench produced 14 points from Rylee Grays and Jade Clack scored 11 points.

Oklahoma State Sunday opens Big 12 play at Cincinnati.

Georgia (11-0) at home in Athens topped North Carolina A&T 77-49 as Dani Carnegie scored 20 with 10 boards. The Bulldogs next compete Friday against VCU in the 4 Tha Culture Holiday Classic in Richmond.

Campbell (7-5) won 68-63 over visiting Norfolk State (5-8) as Jasmine Nivar scored 20 points.

On Tuesday, nationally, No. 5 LSU hosts Morgan State at noon on SECN+, while ESPN+ will air No. 9 TCU hosting Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7:30 p.m. and No. 4 UCLA hosting Cal Poly at 10 p.m. will air on the Big Ten Network.

Seton Hall hosts Washington State at 7 p.m. on ESPN+, Holy Cross on the same network hosts Vermont at 10 a.m., and Richmond at 11 a.m., also on ESPN+, hosts Bethune-Cookman.
