The Guru Report: The Entire Preseason Women’s Division I Conference Team and Player Forecasts All In One File

By Mel Greenberg @womhoopsguru

Go Phillies. Nice World Series opening win. Go get game two Saturday night. 76ers won. Flyers won. The 6-0 Eagles try to stay unbeaten Sunday on a weekend the soccer MLS Union heads to the next playoff round.

Ok, local pride noted and with mention-stealing clicks off searches going on for those teams, it’s time to continue our run-up to the 2022-23 NCAA women’s basketball season. Learned that trick in the early internet era at a time a story containing at least one reference of UConn, Rutgers, Penn State, Tennessee, Stanford and Delle Donne did wonders off the viewing count.

Meanwhile, March Madness is when the conference tournaments are the last shots for squads to state their cases to make the 68-team field as at-large invitees from the committee should they not land the automatic qualifiers that come by way of being league champions.

And February Frenzy is when teams fine tune their runs to get in the best position to execute their positions in those events.

But the reality is one week from Monday, Nov. 7, beginning mid-morning in the East, the 0-0 tie involving every team in the country will begin to reform and though stretch drive has lots of weight, everything counts off the season-opening tips.

Early in the season, regional advisory committees composed of coaches and the NCAA committee broken into sectors will begin the first of evaluations to be part of the data that goes into March deliberations.

All month either live or through zooms media days have been held to offer previews including polls and all-league picks by coaches, media panels, sometimes both.

Your Guru has been tracking them for the purposes of building his composite daily awareness for coverage slates that include the entire schedules of the 13 locals - the Big 5, Delaware, Drexel, Rutgers, Penn State, Rider, Princeton, Lehigh and Lafayette - and then every holiday tournament, 90 percent if which has opponents pre-determined in every round, and of course all the major broadcasts and the remaining important clashes out of the rest if the country.

At the same time the Guru’s new associate, former Temple women’s basketball sports information director Noreen Dougherty, displaying superstar qualities at the outset, has compiled all of the forecasts in one long file, which follows this and the team picks will be compared to standings near the end of December when most of non-conference play is completed. At the end of January that update will reflect the first half of intra-league competition and occurs at the same time the NCAA group begins their series of Top 16 reveals.

That said, with the last of the picks released at the end of this week, as they say in another sport, the horses are in the gate, and here they are:
