Guru’s End of Decade Series: The All-Decade of Each Big 5 and Think of the Combo Team

By Mel Greenberg @womhoopsguru

PHILADELPHIA – Continuing on with the Guru’s end of the decade celebration it’s time to  go local.

This is being assembled on the fly and not as precise as our Inquirer colleague Mike Jensen just did in citing the local Big 5 men, but the Guru just did what he could on looking up who all played at each of the Big Five schools from Jan. 4, 2010 – so  in other words back end of the 2009-10 season - until now.

But a few caveats – there must be representative time at each decade end, so the seniors of the first group are not eligible nor are the incoming freshmen this season, who may well be largely represented for whoever wants to try this next time around.

Secondly, the Guru would have thrown Drexel into the mix, but a media guide was not in hand and the Guru did not feel like poking anyone on a Friday afternoon during this long break.

But adjustments can be made, so you Dragons fans, feel free to submit names for a Philly Six of the decade and adjustments will be made before the finished product.

Likewise, source stuff was not available from La Salle and it was not the greatest decade though better times are ahead so for now consider Amy Griffin’s name in the nomination mix but feel free for those of you who spent more time by default than the Guru at Gola in the recent last to create your idea of an Explorers team of the decade.

Also, injuries played havoc with some seasons and at times the Guru will have a comment line.

Before you ask, those of you who are located outside the realm but see enough of Philly teams are free to join in.

Now for the rest of you, the Guru created first and second tier decade squads for Penn, Saint Joseph’s,Temple and Villanova.

But he would be glad to see who the masses like, so you can toss names from either side, though the first tier is preferable and  just as soon as this post is up, feel free to reply on his twitter @womhoopsguru.

We did not get into stats, positions, etc., since there is a clear sense who is who, maybe once we’re ready to dumb down to a local overall group and fix some of the stuff just mentioned, we will go for a second round before finalizing next week.

If you need conversation, we can dm from there if we follow each other or otherwise use facebook.
