UConn Keeps Dominating the AP 1 vs. 2 Games
By Mel Greenberg @womhoopsguru
Since but not including, the 2001 NCAA semifinal meltdown against Notre Dame when an upstart freshman named Diana Taurasi suddenly couldn't make a shot, Connecticut has gone 15-1 in AP Women's Poll 1 vs. 2 games.
The one loss was at the Brittney Griner-led Baylor squad 66-60 in 2011 when the Huskies were the No. 2 team. Two of the wins in the run they were also the No. 2 team, beating South Carolina and Stanford.
Ergo since that 2001 loss to Notre Dame UConn is 13-0 as the No. 1 team, which means the voters in the battleground states that flipped the Huskies by a slim two-point margin past the Irish This week, despite both teams being unbeaten, must have seen something brewing Wednesday niight.
Previously UConn has one other loss as a No. 1 to Tennessee in 1999.
Here is the entire 1 vs. 2 AP file which the Guru keeps a spare and just updated. Hopefully it's in synch with what is on the wire. Beat up on the Guru if he is wrong.
