Time to Celebrate and Party With Another Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Class

By Mel Greenberg @womhoops guru

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. --
Greetings all. This is your Guru on the scene for his annual visit and also on behalf of @bluestarmedia1 at induction weekend for the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2015.

This is being written postcard style on what is also the eighth anniversary of the Guru's own induction in 2007 and what a party that one was.

This year's class consists of former collegiate/WNBA/Olympic great Lisa Leslie, the late Kurt Budke, who coached Louisiana Tech and Oklahoma State, among other programs; WNBA Indiana Fever assistant coach Gail Goestenkoers, who had a long notable collegiate coaching career at Duke and Texas; former Georgia and Olympic center Janet Harris; long successfull Oregon high school coach Brad Smith, and former Brazilian and former WNBA Houston Comets star Janeth Arcain.

Additionaly, Immaculata, completing a season-long victory tour for the championship 72-74 era, is being cited as trailblazers of the game here -- a team award -- after induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, where Leslie is headed in September, induction into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame.

Former stars of the Mighty Macs Theresa Grentz, Marianne Stanley, and coach Cathy Rush are already enshrined here as individuals.

First, special thanks to the guy at USAiirways/American Airlines in the middle of the night over the phone who said, "Yes, you do exist in the system," and sent the missing itinerary for the 815 am liftoff from Philadelphia to Charlotte and on to here with a timely arrival to be greeted by our photo guy William "Willbill" Ewart.

No thanks to the airline system designer who decided to employ a special Charlotte Airport Relays Event in which you land at the farthest end of Terminal B and have to catch a plane at nearly the farthest end of terminal E.

Anyone using the rate of a special age or more who actually makes it is immediately subject to suspicion of impersonating that age to get a lower rate.

It took longer to taxi from the gate in Charlotte (21.5 minutes) then to actually make the short flight to here from North Carolina.

In keeping with tradition and orders, prior to checking into the Marriott Knoxville, next door, the Guru stopped right at the Hall, where Tennessee coach and WBHOF Hall of Famer Holly Warlick was doing a stint on a local sports radio broadcast.

Today, Thursday, is also Warlick's birthday.

For those who have been to the hall in the past, weather problems flooded the basketball floor in the back of the exhibit area but the new floor, which just got completed today looks sensational.

Immaculata coach/athletic director Patty Canterino arrived this afternoon, as did Leslie, while Harris and Smith are already here.

Meanwhile, since the iPad battery is about to die and Willbill anounced Brazilian it will be and soon for dinner, the Guru signing off for now but will get back on the horn much later tonight.
