Guru Bulletin: Hold The Naismith Hall of Fame Talk

By Mel Greenberg

Despite a report that was then referrenced across the internet Sunday afternoon, the decision as to who are the actual women's committee candidates for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame is a long way yet from being determined.

The report out of NBA.com mentioned former UConn star Rebecca Lobo, former Louisiana Tech star Teresa Weatherspoon, former Georgia star Katrina McClain and former Stanford star Jennifer Azzi as finalists, which also led the Guru to conclude the limitation of two out of the women's committee has been expanded to four.

Well, most of that is not true as it has been written and then related.

The committee, which is still held to two candidates, has yet to meet and is months away from making a decision.

The four former Olympians are still among a large group of candidates of nominees to the committee for deliberation, according to a Hall of Fame source in Springfield, Mass., with knowledge of the process.

Nominations to the committee are still open. This is Dawn Staley's first year of eligibility, though she has yet to be nominated. However, a certain part time biographer of hers is on the case (hint, hint.).

That said, the Guru will be back later. He is on the scene in Easton, Pa., for Monday's game here with host Lafayette and Princeton.
