Guru Report: AP Final Poll Data

(Guru's note: There is a post below this with an enhanced NCAA Women's Schedule to show seeds and ranking numbers and it is organized by daily as opposed to region.)

Now that the crush of the bracket news has come and gone, here are some quick notes on AP poll history since the books on the 35th year closed Monday.

A total of 38 teams were ranked this season and seven in the preseason poll -- West Virginia, St. John's, Texas, Georgia, Iowa State, TCU and Vanderbilt did not make it to the final vote.

The replacements who came along were DePaul, Miami, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Marist, Gonzaga, Georgia Tech and Marquette.

Tennessee is the only school to appear in all 35 final polls.

Baylor, Connecticut, Duke, Florida State, Georgetown, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCLA, and Xavier went wire-to-wire, appearing in all 19 weeks.

Connecticut racked up 12 No. 1 appearances, missing seven after Baylor took over for the first time, following the Huskies' loss to Stanford that ended their record 90-game win streak as well as their long run at the top of the rankings.

Baylor and Connecticut stayed in the top five all season while they were joined in the Top 10 for a season-long residence by Duke, Texas A&M, Xavier, Tennessee, and Stanford.

In the final poll, Connecticut made it an even 10 appearances, far more than any other team. Here are the total finishes at No. 1, Top 5, and Top 10. Excuse the lack of alignment for a cleaner read off the cut-and-paste.

Georgia Tech made its first final poll appearance and DePaul made its first Top 10 appearance in a final poll.

And Here's the updated word file list of coaches appearing in the poll. Incidentally, there will be a brief but simple overall in the middle of the summer to move teams with poll histories to their new conference alignments such as Nebraska to the Big 10 and Colorado and Utah to the future Pac-12. However, still maintained is the column showing the conference affiliation at the actual time of the ranking.

In introducing the list, Debbie Ryan is ninth all-time with Virginia the entire way, though again in the middle of the summer barring a collegiate coaching job somewhere else, she will move out of the active column.
